The short answer

In monday.com you can’t add one item to two boards natively: each item belongs to a single board, and moving it takes it off the first board. To have the same item on two boards, install Same Item on Multiple Boards (SIMB) by Pioneera, open the item, click Share to another board and pick the second board; the item then stays in sync on both. If you only need to see a few of its fields on the second board, use native Connect Boards + Mirror columns instead.

Native options and what they really do

None of these gives you one item that is a full, editable item on both boards. monday.com’s team says this capability is “not currently on our roadmap” and points to marketplace apps, listing Same Item Multiple Boards first (source).

How to add an item to two boards with SIMB

1

Install Same Item on Multiple Boards

In the monday.com Marketplace, search for Same Item Multiple Boards and install it across all workspaces. (install guide)
2

Line up your columns

Columns sync when they have the same name and same type on both boards. Names are case-sensitive, so “Priority” and “priority” won’t sync. (supported columns)
3

Share the item

Open the item, click the Same Item Multiple Boards tab, click Share to another board, then pick the workspace, board and group.
4

Check column names and types

Check that the columns you want to sync have the same name and type on both boards. Add missing columns directly on the destination board. (automatic column matching)
5

Check it worked

Change the status on one board and look at the other. Post an update and check it shows on both boards. (Each person who posts updates authorizes SIMB once. How.)
Three ways to share, depending on volume: To take an item off one board later, open the SIMB tab and choose Unlink (stops syncing, keeps the item on the other boards) or Delete (removes it from that board only).

How to build a master board from multiple boards

A master board (also called a control tower) is one board that gathers the key items from many boards: all active tasks across client boards, or every team’s top projects for leadership.

Native ways

  • Dashboard: good for charts and numbers across boards. It is not a board, so you can’t regroup items or run board automations on it.
  • High-level board with Connect Boards + Mirror: monday.com’s own example is a “High-Level” board connected to several project boards, showing each project’s status in a mirror column (source). Good for a summary. The mirrored values are not real columns on the master board, and your plan limits how many boards one board can connect to (1 on Basic, 5 on Standard, 20 on Pro, 200 on Enterprise, source).

With SIMB: the same items on their home board and the master board

  1. Keep each team’s board as it is.
  2. Create one master board with groups by team, client or person.
  3. Match columns (name and type) between the home boards and the master board.
  4. Add an automation on each home board, for example “When Status changes to Active, add item to Master Board”.
  5. Remove finished items automatically: a SIMB automation can unlink an item from the master board when its status changes to Done. It stays on its home board.
  6. Add the Item Locations column to the master board to see, and jump to, every board an item is on.
Because the items on the master board are the same items, a status change on a team board shows on the master board right away, and the master board’s columns are real columns you can group, filter and build Kanban lanes on.
Plan sizing for a master board: SIMB plans limit both shared items and boards, and the master board counts as one of the boards. For example, 4 team boards plus 1 master board is 5 boards, which fits the Basic plan (500 items, 5 boards). 15 client boards plus a master board needs Pro (20 boards). See pricing.
One customer review on the marketplace: “We have been using SIMB for over a year, and it is definitely a tremendous help when keeping our master email calendar in sync with many separate campaign boards.” (December 2025) More detail and real examples: master board guide and master board case study.

FAQ

Not with native features. You can move it, copy it, or show its fields with mirror columns. To keep one item on two boards and in sync, use a marketplace app such as Same Item on Multiple Boards (SIMB).
Moving takes the item off the first board. Sharing with SIMB keeps it on the first board and adds it to the second, and both stay in sync.
Create one master board, match its columns to the team boards, then use a SIMB automation on each team board such as “When Status changes to Active, add item to Master Board”. The items on the master board are the same items, so they update by themselves.
Yes, if you only need charts and numbers. If people need to open items, update them and regroup them, a master board works better.
Yes. Install SIMB across all workspaces and you can share items between boards in different workspaces of the same account.
